Did You Know
In addition to Disney’s Pop Century resort, there was a hotel complex built across Hourglass Lake called The Legendary Years. Instead of focusing on the 50’s and onward, The Legendary Years hotel primarily focused on the turn of the century up until the late 40’s.
It wasn’t until the September 11 attacks that progress on the building halted due to the lack of tourism. Prior to 2010, the building and its unfurnished rooms could be spotted from the surrounding resorts. The only feature that indicated the theme of the hotel were the large decade markers on the outside of the area that would have been the lobby.
In late 2010, plans to refurbish the hotel were mentioned, but ultimately, parts of the building were demolished to make room for the upcoming Art of Animation resort, which will open in 2012.
